Femme Boulevard December: Ushering 2013 in Style!

Hello lovelies! I hope all of you have had a wonderful Christmas and are looking forward to the new year! I for one am extremely excited about the new year and I will let you in on why in a bit. Meanwhile, allow me to introduce you to today’s post!

Yours truly has been given the opportunity to participate in a Femme Boulevard post! Femme Boulevard is a monthly column written by three fabulous bloggers: Joey , Lily, and Teri. For the month of December, the three lovelies decided to open their column to all us beauty bloggers out to join in the New Year festivities and so here I am, attempting to do something totally out of my comfort zone!

The theme of today’s look is metallic / shiny lids with vampy / bold lips. Imagine my slight horror when I read those words as I have never really worn bold lips out nor have I worn metallic lids very much. Thankfully, it can be an editorial, wearable look or “anything, as long as you have fun doing it” qoute Lily. ;)

I chose my look based on something wearable as I will be attend a cousin’s wedding early January 2013, the main reason on why I am so excited about starting the new year!

Onto this wearable look! Here are the products I used to create the look:

Products used to create Femme Boulevard December 2012 look

As I will be wearing a teal dress (either the one featured in this post or another) to the wedding, I thought I’d match my eyeshadow with my dress. I then dug out my Guerlain Les Ombres de Nuit 4 -Colour Palette from Guerlain’s Christmas 2011 collection. The look also requires vampy lips and I immediately thought of the Guerlain Nuit d’Amour Rouge Automatique from the same Christmas collection!

Here’s a list of the other products I used:

1. Bourjois Healthy Mix Foundation in 51

2. Creme de La Mer The Radiant Concealer in Light

3. K-Palette Real Lasting Eyeliner 24h Waterproof in Black

4. No7 Nude Lip Liner

5. Shiseido Perfect Mascara Defining Volume

6. Guerlain Terracotta La Selection De L’ete

7. Guerlain Blush 4 Eclats Rose Plein Vert 05

8. Guerlain Rouge Shine Automatique in Altoum

9. Shu Uemura Hard Formula Brow Pencil in 05 Stone Grey

And… Here’s the look!

Femme Boulevard December 2012 shiny lids

Pardon the peeling nose, I’ve just recovered from a full-blown cold but my nose has not ceased shedding its skin just yet!

Onto the face first, I used Bourjois’ Healthy Mix foundation as it’s more moisturising and it’s yellow undertones really help conceal the redness around my nose and cheek area. My skin has also been dry of late so this is a go-to for evenings out! A light dusting of blush went with the look as I didn’t want to take any attention away from my eyes / lips. An attempt to contour went in too with the Guerlain bronzer but it doesn’t really show up in the photos.

For the eyes! I first applied a thin layer of the shimmering grey shade all over the lids. Then I took the blackened blue shade and applied it on the outer lids, slowly working it into my crease. I layered on the colours slowly and carefully as I wanted all shades to blend well together. The lighter teal shade was used on the middle of both lids and blended out. The key to this look? Blend, blend and blend some more! I dabbed some of the shimmering grey eyeshadow on the corner of my eyes to make them pop a little.

As this look will be worn in the evening, I brought some of the blackened blue shade down under the outer corner of my eyes and blended that out with the teal and grey shades, working my way to the inner corners of my eyes.

The eyes were tightlined with the K-Palette eyeliner, a gift from my soulmate who with Lily introduced me into the world of eyeliners. =) As usual, I then curled my eyelashes with my trusty Shu Uemura lash curlers and lashings of the Shiseido mascara went through them. Brows were lightly filled with the Shu Uemura Brow Pencil.

Finally, I lined and filled in my lips with the No7 Nude lip liner before applying the Guerlain Nuit d’Amour Rouge Automatique with a lip brush onto my lips. Upon applying the shade I felt it could do with a little shine so I slicked on a layer of Guerlain’s Altoum Shine Automatique but it’s barely visible, even in real life. Guess I shouldn’t have bothered with it. =p

I tried my very best to take photos without me looking really silly but I guess I am not photogenic at all. Sigh. I’ll let the photos do the talking.

This one, I took in hope of showcasing the eyes without looking weird. Succeeded in the eye department, failed in terms of looking weird.

Then there’s this shot. A family member mentioned I bear an uncanny resemblance to The Joker.

Femme Boulevard December 2012 New Year look

Do you think the look meets the shiny / bold look? The look’s nothing metallic as I can’t bring myself to wear such a bold eye out but the shine gives my eyes more depth. The deep plummy lips  seems to breathe a new lease of life into an otherwise boring matchy eye and dress look. What say you?

Do not forget to check out what the other ladies think! =D

I have something rather exciting coming up in the next few days so be sure to stay tuned! ;)

Bottoms Up: March Empties and Favourites!

I call March the moisturiser month seeing I’ve used up 3 different types of moisturisers! =p It’s been 4 months since I came home, and I did come home with quite a few moisturiser samples so I’m happy I’ve used some of them up!

(From Left – Right)

1. Kiehl’s Superbly Efficient Anti-Perspirant and Deodorant Cream
I’ve got sweaty underarms. This prevents me from getting sweat patches of epic sizes. I’ve gone through tubes of this and I have to say it’s the best anti-perspirant I’ve used this far. However, a recent outing with the boyfriend made me sway and I’ve purchased…. A man’s deodorant. Yup you read right. Review to come. ;)
2. Sunplay SPF130 PA+++ Super Block
Took me ages to use this up because it dried me out so!
3. Clarins Hydra Quench Cream
This is a deluxe-sized sample (30ml!) came as a GWP from Clarins. I alternate between this and my Guerlain Issima Happylogy Glowing Overnight Treatment and it works a treat! May consider purchasing a full-sized tub of this once the Guerlain one runs out.
4. Kiehl’s Oil-Free Gel Cream
I finished a tub of this last month and here’s a new tub! Lol am only joking. I got this from the boyfriend who didn’t like the moisturiser so I’ve used yet another tub up! =D
5. Biotherm’s Aqua Source Gel Moisturiser
Non-greasy, light yet moisturising. The perfect gel moisturiser for hot, humid weather.
6. Estee Lauder’s Advance Night Repair Serum
Finally used this up after over a year! I only use 2-3 drops a time and I find it good value for money seeing I only use this once a day.
Also, I thought I’d just squeeze in some products I’ve enjoyed using in March!
1. Shiseido Perfect Defining Volume Mascara
The mascara that does not smudge nor irritate my sensitve eyes! Only downside? It’s a pain to remove! I think I’ve jumped onto the mascara-wearing bandwagon again, thanks to this!
2. Shu Uemura Eyelash Curler
Had this for absolute ages (3-4 years?) but the poor curler did not get much loving from its owner as she never uses mascara! I foresee a lot of use with this baby seeing I’ve found a mascara that doesn’t turn me into a teary-eyed monster!
3. Make Up Forever HD Primer
Got this at the persistence of my best friend, KH. We were hanging out at The Gardens Mall when I dropped by MUFE’s island shop and got a makeover. He then gushed over how good primer made me look, prompting me to grab a bottle of this. I usually save this for evenings out but I’ve been using this quite a bit over the last couple of weeks.
4. Shiseido Perfect UV Protector SPF50+ PA+++
This is fast becoming my new HG! I used to rave so much about Kose’s Sun Protector (which I must review before it runs out) but an ‘incident’ made me rethink purchasing stuff from the brand. That aside, this product spreads evenly, leaves me with no unsightly white patches / breakouts! One of my best buys of the year! (Okay, this and the Shiseido Mascara)
5. La Mer’s The Lip Balm
Been suffering from dry, chapped lips as I’ve been spending over 14 hours in an air-conditioned place. Every single day. I love being in a cool environment but my lips are paying the price! This really helps moisturise them and only a thin layer is needed!
6. Estee Lauder Double Wear Stay-in-Place Shadow Creme in Golden Sands + Mochachino
The lovely Lily  got me hooked onto using cream eyeshadows! These shadow cremes are proof that impulse purchases sometimes turn out for the better! I am really loving these two shades. So much that I’ve been using eyeshadow nearly everyday.
7. Guerlain Nuit d’Amour Rouge Automatique
I have been wearing this as a stain. Turns my lips into a pretty berry red when applied using a lip brush – with a very light hand!
8. MAC Tendertone in Hush, Hush
I never wear this alone even though it’s considered to be a moisturising lip balm / gloss hybrid. This has been a permanent fixture in my handbag and I think it’s going to stay in there until I use it up! As Guerlain’s Nuit d’Amour tends to settle into my lip lines, Hush, Hush gently evens those lines out and voila! Soft, plump lips at your service! ;)
March has been an eventful month in terms of favourite products as I’ve discovered quite a few gems! Now bring it on, April!
Do share your March favourites with me! =)

A Travel Essentials Post!

Having gone on quite a few weekend getaways / short trips, one would probably think I am quite good at packing light…..
NOT!!
But I am still trying to pack as light as possible. =D I’ll be going on another short trip this weekend so I thought I’d post what I’ll be taking with me!

Note: as the destination of this short getaway can be reached by car, I am not travelling light. #cheating lol!

Let’s start with skin care!

From left to right:

1. MAC Cleanse Off Oil
  • I found this in Mum’s skin care cupboard and since Mum doesn’t use cleansing oils, I nicked it from her hehe! Am currently testing this out and will probably feature this in one of my Sampling Sundays column! =D
2. Kose Softymo’s Deep Cleansing Oil
  • My HG cleansing oil brand!! I thought it would be safest for me to decant some of this into an empty bottle just in case the MAC one breaks me out… Better be safe than sorry, right?
3. Shiseido Aqua Label White Clear Foam
  • This came with a travel-sized set which consists of the clear foam, lotion and moisturiser. I’ve used this on two of my trips and it seems to be working okay for me.. Only gripe is that this cleanser has fine scrubby bits in it that are somewhat similar to Kiehl’s Rare Earth Cleanser.
4. Shiseido Aqua Label White Up Lotion R
  • Watery, slightly viscous texture. I haven’t used this enough to say if my skin loves or hates it.
5. Shiseido Aqua Label White Up Emulsion R
  • Light, watery and non sticky moisturiser my skin has taken a liking to! Been using this instead of my Clinique Moisture Surge Gel in the mornings and this is a product I may consider repurchasing!
6. Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Eye Cream
  • My staple eye cream over the last 4 months or so. Currently, this is my only eye cream as I left my day eye cream in the UK. :s
7. Dr. Andrew Weil for Origins Mega-Mushroom Skin Relief Serum
  • A must have for my sensitive skin! This is one of my favourite serums as it has helped with reducing the severe redness I suffer from. Something I cannot live without! =)
8. Estee Lauder Advance Night Recovery Serum
  • I love this paired with Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Serum, a technique I learnt from the lovely ParisB
9. Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Serum
  • A lavender-scented oil that leaves me wanting more after applying it! A divine serum that leaves your skin looking rejuvenated the morning after.
I have a feeling this is the lightest I’ve packed yet! I usually pack a tub of my Guerlain Issima Happylogy night moisturiser but I don’t think I’m going to do so this time seeing I’m only spending two nights away and I want to test the Aqua Label products properly before reviewing them. =)
Because I’m travelling light skincare-wise…. I’m bringing a little more make up this time as I want to practise my eye shadow application skills!! =D
From left to right:
1. Shu Uemura UV Under Base Mousse SPF30 PA+++
  • Perfect make up base for humid weather as this product is rather drying! I make sure I use a slightly thicker moisturiser before using this product as it does leave my face feeling tight and uncomfortable.
2. Kose Medicated Sekkisei Sun Protector SPF50 PA+++
  • As the Shu Uemura Base Mousse is too drying for me, I do not use a lot of product which makes me feel I’m not getting enough SPF for my face so I always use this underneath the Base Mousse. =p Love, love, love this moisturising sunscreen!
3. Topshop Cream Blush in Flush
  • Powdery finish that lasts all day. Easy to apply and such a joy to carry around!
  • My go-to foundation for travelling as this goes on like second skin! Will be really sad when this runs out but I’m looking forward to trying other foundations.. why hello, Dior and Shiseido! ;)
  • I love using this as both a setting powder and a foundation when used by itself! Oil control is not very good but I’ll be okay since I’m using the Shu Uemura Base Mousse!
6. Estee Lauder Pure Colour Illuminating Powder Gelee in 01 Modern Mercury
  • Bought this during Summer last year and have only just brought myself to use it! It’s a gorgeous highlighter that will be reviewed soon!
7. Dior New Look Eye Palette in 254 Bleu de Paris
  • I never thought I could wear blue eyeshadow. Now I know I can…. or can’t I? =D
8. Inglot 3 colour palette
  • Bought this with the lovely Hanny and nope, I haven’t gotten down to using it yet. That will change this weekend!! =p
9. Etude House Eyeshadow Primer
  • A product that rivals the oh-so-famous Urban Decay Primer Potion and this does such a good job at holding eyeshadows together!
I do not usually bring this much make up (especially not eyeshadows) but we are thinking of attending lovely dinners together so I thought might as well pack my underused eyeshadow palettes and try to get some use out of them! Haha!
Do you travel light? ;)

How I do my everyday make up!

I’ve always toyed with the idea of showing you my ‘everyday make up look’ and have drafted this post eons ago but somehow…. My fingers seem to evade the ‘Publish’ button each time I edit this post and it chooses ‘Save’ instead.

=D

Unlike most beauty bloggers and ladies who do take pride in their appearance and make a lot of effort to look good before heading out of the house e.g. apply lashings of mascara, eye shadow, contour face, pencil in their brows etc….

This self-professed beauty blogger nearly always heads out of her home bare faced (well, nearly) so I’ve always been a little wary of what your response would be upon reading this post!

*takes deep breath*

I’ve never been good at art back in school, which explains the absence of colour on my eyelids. Having shaky hands, of course is yet another contributing factor to my naked lids but I’m still learning how to do my eye make up properly! =)

Most of the time, I usually do my make up in the morning and do not retouch until the evening so I like keeping my make up simple as:

simple make up = less risk of your make up turning you into a panda-eyed monster by the end of the evening. =D

That, my ladies is my somewhat fool proof make up mantra! for now until i perfect the art of make up, at least!

My daily make up routine consists of these steps:

1. Cleanse, tone, moisturize

2. Apply sunscreen

3. Apply primer (a newly acquired step that I find really helps hold everything together!)

4. A bit of foundation where my skin needs it (nose, mouth area and sometimes cheeks if they are red, blotchy and angry-looking)

*5. Apply highlighter (A recent addition since I discovered the amazing brush that is the Sigma E50. Thank you, Lily!)

6. Apply cream blush. Because it stays put for the rest of the day and goes on easily!

*7. Tightline eyes and get poked in the eye most of the time

*8. Fill in my brows (Thank you, Paris!)

9. Dust loose powder all over to set make up.

10. Apply Lipstick / Lipgloss / Lip Butter.

*Steps that are newly added into my routine and are considered as ‘Special Occasion Extras‘ but I am planning to incorporate them into my permanent Everyday Make Up routine!

Ready to see the end result? ;)

=)
Pardon ‘em eye bags and blemishes that are peeking out! I am not a fan of concealing imperfections although I do use concealer for zits of epic proportions.
Here are the products I used!

1. Sunscreen – Kose Sun Protector SPF50 PA+++

2. Primer – MUFE HD Primer

4. Highlighter - Lancome’s Eclat Miracle

5. Cream Blush – Canmake’s Cream Cheek in #11 Heavenly Heart

6. Eye Liner – Canmake’s Lasting Creamy Liner in 01 Black

7. Eye Brow Pencil – Shu Uemura Hard Formula Brow Pencil

8. Powder - Guerlain Meteorites in Teint Rose

I hope you liked this post! What’s your everyday look like? Do tell!! =D

Pssstt!!! Have you joined my GIVEAWAY yet? ;)
