Monthly update and giveaway announcement!

Howdy, everyone! I’ve been going on and on about how I really want to get back into blogging properly but Time seemed to evade me more than anything else so I truly, truly apologise about these random hiatuses!

Today, I want to talk a little about what I’ve been doing over the last couple (okay, two-going-on-three) weeks. Let’s start with after the “wedding of the year” where I packed more than enough makeup to last 4 people a good year or so.

;)

Not one, but Two BIG Moves! :D

Howdy y’all! Just before you start giving up on this little blogger, allow me to explain myself!!

Last week, I discovered something so horrible it brought my world to a halt. The blogging one, no less. I ran out of photo storage space!!

Yes, technology n00b I am. I did not learn the importance of resizing my photos until rather late in my blogging career (if you count sporadic posts a career) so I quickly maxed out the 1GB of space provided by good ol’ Blogger.

Yes, there’s Picasa and Flickr but again, I’m not very good with technology so I much rather start afresh and make that huge move over to….. WordPress.

Yep. This blogger who knows nuts about HTML or domain transfers or whatever technological jargon is making the big move over to what I call the dark side as WordPress has always intimidated me.

I hope all will be okay though as I have enlisted the help of someone who may be assisting me during this big, bold move.

I have been shopping around for servers to host my blog on (is that how you put it, I don’t even know lol) and have finally found one that doesn’t cost too much!! I currently pay like USD10 for my domain name a year and Blogger hosts my blog but I figured it’s high time I brought this blog to a new level. Of course, it would mean that I have to up my game and learn the ropes.

Join me on my next big adventure? ;)

I did mention Two big moves, didn’t I?

Well…… I’m no longer unemployed! :p Technically I still am unemployed as I haven’t started working yet but I will be a tax payer (gah) starting next year and I have had a few job offers coming my way after a bit of a dry spell!

Reckon it’s time to bring out the bubbly and rejoice? :D

Breakouts galore!

Hello everyone, I’m sorry I hadn’t had the time to schedule any posts over the last couple of days as I have either been at work / helping a friend move house which took up most, if not all of my energy!

Also, I’m going through a really bad time, skin-wise! I am blessed with rather good skin where I get the odd pimple every now and then but this time my face has just gone bonkers with all these pimples, be it big or small. Am currently trying to figure out what caused a breakout of such proportion and having a really bad breakout like this is just makes it difficult for me to take face shots as I have a really big, red and angry pimple under my eye (of all places) and no amount of concealer will conceal it from the world so please bear with me while I help this dear friend carry on with her house-moving (she’s moving to another part of town and has over 10 years’ worth of stuff to move out from this old one) and I foresee it’s going to take a while but I’ll do my best to update you every now and again with everything that’s been going on!

August 1 2012

I never seem to be able to grasp Time’s hands. Time’s as slippery as an eel. It’s now eight months into the year and I have not accomplished as much as I would like to!

It’s been a little over 3 months since I came back. A conversation with the boyfriend last night made us both wonder how quickly time flies yet to us, three months of being apart seems like eternity. Ironic, isn’t it?

I’m in a little bit of a story-telling mood today so click to read more but I can’t guarantee it’s going to be interesting though! ;)

The boyfriend and I got together on the 11th of October in 2007. One in Coventry, the other in Canterbury. We spent the next three years of our undergraduate student lives commuting: either via train (posh but expensive) or via cheap Megabus coaches where a single ticket from London to Coventry costs a mere £1.50.

We then managed to close the gap a little with the boyfriend spending a year in London doing his BPTC (Bar Professional Training Course) whereas I stayed on in Canterbury to pursue my Masters.

I still remember the first time our eyes met as a couple: The boyfriend looked slightly frazzled after a long 5-hour coach ride, and he had a black bin bag in hand.

Yes my dears, a black bin bag. I was shocked and a little embarrassed, even but said nothing until we got to my room and I gasped as the black bin bag held the biggest teddy bear I’ve ever owned. =) To this day it sits comfortably on the couch in my room.

A little more insight as to how we met! We both did our A-Levels at the same University College and were both in different classes but shared the same lectures for certain subjects (think it was Maths, Law and Economics). I, however, was oblivious to his existence until one day when I was hanging out outside our classroom, he suddenly said

‘Hello, how are you?’

I was rather taken aback but replied politely, said goodbye and quickly went back into class, thinking

Who on earth was that?

Minutes later, he walked into our class. I gasped, turned to one of my friends and asked if she knew who he was.

Friend said

‘Erm, must be one of the guys from the other class.’

A couple of days (or was it weeks) later, I would like to think of it as fate brought us together in the form of compiling the A-Levels Yearbook where we then spent many an hour pouring over photographs, articles and whatnot.

If you were thinking sparks were flying and electrocuting everyone in our path then, sorry but nothing happened! We were just friends and I did not see him as anything more than that.

Oh, I like his smile. Very much. I did gush to some friends saying the boyfriend has a very nice smile. =D

I even casually mentioned this to the Mother in passing, saying

‘There’s this guy who shares some classes with us, he’s got a really nice smile. Too bad he’s too thin for me or I might just fall for him.’

We later discovered we have quite a bit in common and we both share the same love for music! It’s difficult to find someone who indulges in classical music and I was thrilled I now have a classical music buddy!

Fast forward toA-Levels prom. Okay he may just throttle me for saying this but something really strange happened then!

At the end of the evening, the ballroom was transformed into a dance floor. I didn’t get to speak much to him throughout the evening as we sat in different tables but he walked over and asked if I wanted to go to the dance floor. Go to the dance floor, not asking if I wanted to dance with him. I thought it would be a great idea to watch some friends dance so I said okay.

Halfway through the dance I have no idea what happened but suddenly we ended up holding hands. I thought it was he who took my hand he thought it was me but we both swear we did not attempt to take each other’s hand.

Fairytale ending then? Sorry to burst your bubble!! We awkwardly let go when the song ended and I rushed in search of other friends and he had to rush home as he was going for a class trip the very next day!

We didn’t talk much for the next couple of weeks as we were both busy applying for our visas but as luck would have it we applied for our visas together and went to collect it together, which was quite nice! =)

I flew to the UK slightly earlier than he did as my university had an earlier start date. I vaguely remember him logging onto the internet from an Internet Cafe in London when he first arrived and I happened to be on MSN at that time. We chatted for a while, quickly exchanged numbers and shall I say, the rest is history? =D

Not quite!

After he settled down in Warwick we started talking on nearly a daily basis and to be honest I think we kind of got together before the ‘official’ date but we only made it official on the 11th of October. =p

Our college mates assumed we got together when we were still in college but nothing happened during college! Somehow sparks flew during our Skype conversations so our relationship started off as a long distance one and still is today, with the only problem being the 7 hour time difference! =(

Many felt that our relationship wouldn’t last due to the distance and our different personalities but we somehow managed to make it work. It is never easy being in a relationship, what more a long distance one. We’ve had our fair share of fights / arguments (well we still do to this very day) but we agree that we will never go to bed without resolving an argument. So it’s fight, fight, argue, argue and then kiss and make up before the day is over. There are always cyber kisses like *mwah* if we can’t kiss in person so all is good!

I better put an end to this here before I bore any of you! =D But yes, this is how we got together and I happily announce that we are still very much in love with each other to this very day, and hopefully for the rest of our lives. ;)

Thought I should conclude my post with some flowers:

Do you have a story to share? I’m all ears! =)

Hit and miss.

It all started because I was bored. Annoyed, and a little worried that I’d go blind should my unruly fringe kept getting into my eyes.

I could never draw or cut in a straight line should you request that I do them freehand.

‘Trimming’ my fringe was a very bad idea from the start. I was only going to give it a little trim, but……

I butchered my fringe off. Because I refuse to pay £30 just for a fringe trim.

It wouldn’t have mattered so much if I did not have any important events to attend. At first, I let out a sigh of relief as I thought

‘All’s good, boyfriend isn’t here to make fun of me.’

Then came the nightmare:

My housemate’s graduation is in a couple of days and I’m attending it and possibly dining with her entire family after.

+____+

I can already hear her fiance and brother’s snickers. *gulp*

I guess I’ll just have to keep calm, and carry on.

By now, you must be dying to see what my fringe looks like. I will humour you and leave you with this:

Photo’s taken with Hipstamatic using their Portrait SnapPak.

If it’s any consolation, I applied a faceful of make up using newly discovered favourites and stepped out to meet a friend for lunch. A proper FOTD will be posted should you ask nicely and promise not to laugh too much. =D

Dear A* was extremely tactful and did her best not to laugh even though she gasped quite loudly the minute our eyes met.

Happy Saturday, everyone!

happiness is.

when I have my cup of tea to kickstart the day.

when I listen to Max Schneider on YouTube.

when I realise (with slight dismay) that I actually find Bieber’s Boyfriend catchy.

when waking up at 4am isn’t so bad after all as you hear the birds chirping, and watch the break of dawn.

when I know my family and friends have got my back.

when I have such lovely readers like you.

thank you, the powers that be for bringing such good into my life.

Saturday Photo Meme – What’s in Your Bag?

Hiya! I frequently stalk Yumeko’s blog (please follow her, she takes such lovely photos!) where recently she’s started this photo meme thing which I found to be quite fun and they make great filler posts too! Hehe!

I thought I’d make this a Saturday Photo Meme instead of a Friday one due to our time zone difference. Yumeko lives in Japan whereas I live in the UK! By the time I read Yumeko’s blog it’s pretty much Friday afternoon / evening here so I find it a little late to churn out a post then. I hope this is okay with you, Yumeko!

It would be lovely if we could get more people to join in the fun!

So in this Photo Meme edition, we reveal what’s in our bags based on 5 questions.

Are you ready? =D

1. Cellphone / Mobile phone

This is my battered iPhone case. Bought it with the boyfriend from one of those island shops at Sunway Pyramid for RM68 which is a rip off for the quality you get but I was desperate for one as he accidentally broke my other case. Tsk tsk. Does anyone have any good iPhone cases / covers to recommend?

2. Wallet / Purse / Whatever you keep your money in

I have two purses (because girls can never be satisfied with only one), with the other being my Cath Kidston one which is still very much in use. The red Filofax leather purse gets used when I have a lot of other stuff to carry or, when I’m using a small bag as the Cath Kidston one can be a little bulky. I purchased this from Filofax’s Covent Garden store during the Summer Sales last year and fast forward nearly a year later, it’s still looking as good as new!

3. Something in your wallet (cards / coins / money / whatever)

Mostly drugstore loyalty cards, as you can see! =D Boots, Superdrug, Clarins and Debenhams are the places where I spend most of my erm, allowance but these cards ensure that I get my money’s worth! I even have a Residents Card because that gives me discounts when dining at places such as Pattiserie Valerie and gives me free access to certain museums in town. I’m a bit of a nerd like that. Holland and Barrett is where I purchase my health supplements / food but this is relatively new so I’m not sure what the rewards are like. The Bite Card gives me a good 20% discount off certain food outlets at all train stations in the UK. Finally, there’s the Tesco Clubcard (boring) and my weekly bus pass! This is the first time I’ve purchased a bus pass since coming back as I haven’t been very well so I thought I’d treat myself to taking the bus all week before reverting back to using my feet.

There you go, I love my discount cards and I never go anywhere without these cards! Boots, especially as there’s a Boots pharmacy everywhere and you just never know what you may find! =D

4. Makeup you carry on the go

The only beauty product I carry is usually a lippie where I have Chanel’s Rouge Coco Shine in Boy housed in a batik lipstick case. I thought I should add in sunscreen and hand sanitiser because they are my must have items and I never leave home without these.

5. Whatever else you wish to share from your bag

Another must have is the umbrella. If you reside in the UK, you must never ever leave home without a brolly… Unless the ‘wet look’ is what you’re after! ;) I have been carrying my iPad around and it sleeps in this beautiful iPad sleeve that Mum got it custom made for me before I left home!

I decided to do this with Stephanie of Beaute Fabuleuse so please head to her blog to see what she’s got in her bag!

It’s fun having a little peek into what others have in their bag! Please let us know if you decide to do this Meme and leave a link in the comment box below so we can hop over to your blog to say hello!

Have a lovely Saturday, everyone! My Saturday will be spent at work but hearing from you readers will certainly make my day. =)

Giveaway woes….

Hey everyone!
I’ve been toying with the idea of hosting a giveaway for quite some time now but I never know what to pop into the goodie bag! As you lovely readers will be the ones receiving the gift, I thought I’d quickly ask if you’ve got any suggestions on what I should give away! My budget’s quite tight at the moment as I’m currently in limbo – not quite a student yet not technically unemployed.. it’s complicated lol but I really want to thank all of you lovelies for being such lovely readers with a teeny gift!

Ideally, I would love to sponsor two gifts (bearing the same items) – one for residents in Malaysia (that’s where I currently live!) and one for international readers but seeing I have no idea on what to giveaway yet… I haven’t got a clue on what the budget’s gonna be!

So please let me know if you would like me to hold TWO giveaways instead of ONE, and whether you would rather have skin care samples, make up products or a little bit of everything? =D

I look forward to hearing from all of you!! Bring forth ‘em suggestions!! =D

The Scrubbing Diaries: Origins Modern Friction Facial Scrub

Hello everyone! As I was bogged down with work I couldn’t get my Scrubbing Diaries post up yesterday! Much apologies! :D
Thought I’d show you one of my longest lasting scrubs ever – Origins Modern Friction!
Mum got this for me a little more than two years ago as she felt bad about going for facials at the Origins standalone store at The Gardens Mid Valley without buying something from the beauticians. In case you’re wondering if the scrub’s gone off, it hasn’t as it has a 24 month PAO (Period After Opening) and this really makes me wonder if Origins’ products are as natural as they claim to be?
I love Origins’ concept but unfortunately most of the products I have tried do not work for me. The only product I’ve used from Origins that did not break me out was their Mega Mushroom toner from the Dr. Andrew Weil range. It just goes downhill from here. Their Have a Nice Day moisturizer and Make a Difference range of Day and Night Moisturizers gave me bumps on my skin which then led to breakouts of epic proportions. Then there’s their A Perfect World SPF35 Face Protector that turned out too dark and oily for me.
Le sigh. Origins I really want to like your products but why do you not work for me!? T__T
Okay back to the product. Origins refers to this as nature’s gentle dermabrasion. Fair enough as it contains Skin-refining Rice Starch’ that’s meant to remove dead cells, uneven patches and heals skin damage and discolouration. Lemon Oil’  to illuminate the skin and Vitamin C’ as a free radical scavenger.

Sounds promising, eh?
What actually made Mum purchase this for me was the fact that the SA (it’s also mentioned on the website) mentioned you will not get any REDNESS or FLAKING from using this product and that this also minimizes your pores.
—————-
———-
——
As amazing as it sounds, my first experience with the scrub set my face on fire. :s
You are to apply the product onto dry skin (according to the box), which was what I did. It was a bad idea. It stung my skin so bad that I felt as if my face was on fire. Without a doubt, my face was as red as a lobster after using the scrub for the first time.
Second time, I decided to add a bit of water to emulsify the scrub a little before applying it onto my damp face as the scrub is rather gooey. Do not be fooled by its gooey texture as a little goes a very, very, VERY long way.
So why use only a tiny amount, you wonder?
This scrub takes ages to come off. After applying the scrub onto dry skin, you need to take a bit of water to emulsify it just the way you do it with cleansing oils.
Unlike cleansing oils, this is such a toughie to remove! I had to re-emulsify over 3 times to get the gooey gunk off my face!
To illustrate what I mean, here’s what’s left of the scrub after the first emulsification
(wah I sound like a scientist #bimbomoment):
Looks like a freshly applied scrub, no? But I have already emulsified it once and this is what’s left on your skin! Gah.
Oh it hurts like !%#^%™  if any of it gets into your eyes. Both the bf and I experienced it once and we both thought we would go blind. That’s how painful it is.
My housemate gave it a go once and she really liked it, saying
‘ooh my face is so much smoother!’
I wonder if she’s been nicking it every now and then.
I rarely use this product as I’m afraid history will repeat itself and I will:
1. Go Blind
2. Turn into Miss Lobster
So this has always taken up space in the bathroom, staring, mocking me even. Because my skin is not good enough for this product. :(
On a more serious note, other than it being a bit too harsh for me, I do think this scrub really works and it is gentle enough without huge exfoliating beads. Just remember: Use a little at a time! =p
p/s: In case you’re wondering ‘what’s with these randomly coloured words’ or ‘what’s with this incoherent post’ and think I may be high on something, I thought it’s best that I clarify myself before someone calls my mum and she panics and thinks I’m on crack. =p I haven’t slept in over 24 hours as I have been boggled down with so much work it’s crazy so now I’m officially running on autopilot mode.
Okay I better stop before I get anymore incoherent! Have a lovely day / night everyone!

Sorry my lovelies!

Hi everyone! I was just fiddling about getting a new comment box (you know those ones Paris B and Lily’s got) and for some reason all my old comments got deleted T__T
I am so sorry this happened and I don’t know how to get it back! :s
I sure am such a failure with technology. It’s mutual. We hate each other, technology and I.
I hope the new comment box works now that I’ve installed it!
(Have I?) Argh!
Lovely day, everyone and I’m terribly sorry again!
