Onto the clarifying shampoos!! Today, lets talk about the Kerastase Bain Vital Dermo-Calm shampoo, a gently clarifying shampoo that doesn’t strip the hair of its natural oils.
Dermo-Calm is a hypoallergenic cleansing soothing shampoo for sensitive scalps.
And now, for a little marketing blurb, taken off the Kerastase website:
The shampoo contains Calophyllum Oil, which is said to calm irritation; Piroctone Olamine to prevent itchiness; Glycerol to relax and soften the scalp and a menthol derivative to gently refresh the scalp.
I’ve been colouring my hair for almost 10 years now and most of the clarifying hair products I’ve tried stripped the colour off my hair. It’s not a pretty sight, but back then I didn’t have much 0f a choice as I was battling an angry, breakout-prone scalp and the only option I was exposed to was Head & Shoulders. Have dandruff issues? Use Head & Shoulders. Itchy scalp? Head & Shoulders.
Head & Shoulders was my family’s go-to shampoo should anyone suffer scalp woes.
Then… I discovered the joys of salon brands. Kerastase was one of the first high-end haircare brands I was introduced to, and this came highly recommended by my then-stylist as he spotted my spotty scalp.
Yes, it does everything it says on the bottle. It’s a very gentle cleansing shampoo that leaves my hair feeling soft, with my scalp feeling well-rested and clean. This was the magical product that got rid of those nasty bumps in the scalp – boy were they painful!
Now that my scalp’s a lot healthier, I have since resorted to using this once or twice a week, depending on how I feel.
There is a very pleasant floral scent to this, but I wish the menthol kick in this one was a little stronger… If you are looking for a superbly clarifying shampoo that doesn’t strip the hair’s natural oils and gives you a wonderfully cooling sensation, stay tuned for the next shampoo feature – that is one cool shampoo! 😉
I love Kerastase products in general, they have worked wonderfully for me over the years but I am constantly on the lookout for cheaper everyday alternatives as using this range everyday can be quite painful on the wallet. It doesn’t help that my hair’s long and thick too! >.<
Have you tried anything from Kerastase? What’s your favourite scalp cleansing shampoo?
