Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Dry-Touch Sunblock SPF50

Ack! The sun is up again! No! I’ll sparkle ala Edward Cullen!!!!

Alas, I am human. No, I do not drink blood. But my skin takes on a vampiric mood when it comes in contact with the sun. Unfortunately, I do not sparkle. Wish I did though! That’d be so cool but anyway… I turn red as a beet and then, my skin starts to peel.

I’ve always been sun-sensitive. I recall many of my childhood days where my Mum would grab hold of me and slather Banana Boat (I think that’s what she used to buy) sunscreen all over my body (and face, the horror) before I went to school. This went on for years until my dermatologist recommended this sunscreen:

Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Dry-Touch Sunblock SPF50+

Neutrogena has been a part of my life for years! I remember using Neutrogena’s cleanser since starting secondary school, before switching over to Clinique and switching back not long after.

I’m not gonna go into all the sunblock UVA / UVB information because I’m not the best person to ask about anything specifically scientific but I can provide you with a tactile review on what this product is really like.

Neutrogena’s Ultra Sheer Dry-Touch sunblock comes with SPF50 which is the minimum SPF requirement for me. I never do anything less than SPF50 because I simply feel anything less is not good! I never reapply sunblock (unless I’m swimming) so SPF50 is a must-have.

Neutrogena says that the product comes with broad-spectrum protection, which is brilliant as I don’t want to go round purchasing a sunscreen / sunblock that only acts to reflect / diffuse certain rays.

Living in a humid climate also means that the lotion has to be light! With Dry-Touch technology, this lotion dispenses rather thickly but there’s quite a lot of slip to it and it just dries as soon as I rub the product into my skin!

Another thing to note about my skin is that I get that tingling, burning sensation if my skin’s exposed to the sun for a little too long (say, 5 minutes?) and some sunblocks I’ve tried in the past still gives me that sensation even though I apply loads (I apply sunscreen very generously. Just check out my Monthly Empties column and you’ll get what I mean 😉

With this, however, my skin never tingles! NEVER! I have yet to use this when I swim because I almost never swim. If I do, I do it indoors. If that’s not enough to convince you to purchase a tube of this, allow me to say this:

It is very affordable! =D You will get change out of a RM50 note (RM39.88, cheaper if you purchase it during a sale). It also makes it cheaper than its Sunplay / Biore counterparts as you do get quite a generously-sized tube. You can’t go wrong with 88ml worth of product!

Due to the reactive nature of my skin, I have never worn this on my face but my Mum has (brave lady, deserves a huge round of applause!) and she really enjoys using it.

Do not quote me on this but my dermatologist actually said that this product can well be used on the face. I suffered from a bout of impetigo when I was 17 and he did ask me to purchase this particular sunblock and use it on my face. I balked at the idea of doing so (yes, I sometimes play doctor) and decided against it!

A little word of caution though! Should you want to wear this on your face, please apply thin layers as this product may feel rather tacky if applied thickly!

I have backups of backups of this product, making it a Holy Grail item of mine. A product achieves the coveted status when I’ve re-purchased it more than 10 times. Okay this does not apply to foundations as I do not have that huge a face for me to repurchase a foundation 10 times just yet =D

Have you tried this yet? Do you have a favourite sunblock (for face / body / face + body)? Let me know! =)

Once upon a time, I could actually use this on my face – but my latest repurchase saw me breaking out from it. >.< This baby kept me fair all throughout my Langkawi trip last year!

I think the smaller Neutrogena sunscreen for the face – the peach toned one works great~ ^.^

Ooh you actually used it on your face? I haven't tried any of Neutrogena's face sunscreens but I may give them a go! Thanks for the tip! xx

I see, I only started using it in highschool after having allergic reactions to prolonged sun exposure :/

Your skin must be really good then 🙂
