A Post of Firsts

Not the first kiss type of post but… The products that kick-started my beauty product obsession!

I only started wearing makeup pretty late in life… Back in 2011. At Heathrow airport when I made a rushed, panicked trip back home for Chinese New Year. The stress I went through also meant I was suffering from one of the worst breakouts I’ve ever had in my life.

I picked up the newly launched Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua foundation, my very first foundation. I also picked up a Chanel Vitalumiere Lipgloss in Canari which also became my very first lipgloss!

Prior to heading back, I started out by picking up what I thought would be the best concealer in the world – Laura Mercier’s Secret Camouflage as well as a good powder foundation to set the foundation. I chose the Dior Diorskin Nude Sculpting Natural Glow Make Up.

Recently, I was told that it’s better for us to set liquid foundation with loose powder but I have only been lightly dusting my face with the Dior’s Natural Glow face powder and I don’t think it has ever done me any harm.

What’s base makeup without blush? Allow me to let you in on a really funny story. The boyfriend and I were walking in House of Fraser, Westfield White City when we stumbled upon Benefit’s counter. Having read many fun things about Benefit’s makeup, the boyfriend suggested I treat myself (yep, not he, but I treat myself) to an item from the counter.

The very lovely SA (oh how I miss friendly SAs) then gave me a really quick makeover and she used Coralista on me. When I took a step back and looked into the half-length mirror in front of me, my boyfriend gasped. And insisted I take the blush.

In case you were wondering, he paid in the end. =D A good £23.50, if I may add. 😉

I would go on and let you in on which eyeshadows I purchased first and everything else but unfortunately, I can’t recall them anymore so I guess this little post will have to do. 😉

But I do remember my very first lipstick! It’s from Guerlain. =)

Looking back, I did splurge quite a bit on the bigger brands but that’s because I had no faith in drugstore / pharmacy brands. Now that I’ve done a lot more research a.k.a read loads of beauty blogs, I have more confidence when it comes to purchasing high street makeup. In fact, some of my much-loved products come from high street brands. =)

Care to share your makeup firsts with me? =)

Wow! You remember them! My first foundation? Can’t remember… I’m pretty sure it was a powder foundation, and a shade too dark. First lipstick, Revlon, when I was 17. Brown and copper was all the hype back then. LOL 🙂

Haha! Yes I happen to as I remember getting so excited then =D I've never tried Revlon's lipsticks, only lip butters and their balm stains. I wonder if the offer's still on! =)

Haha wow I don’t think I can remember that many of my firsts 😛 But a lot of them were given to me from friends or mom to play with when I was younger. I think my first foundation EVER was a Maybelline foundation stick that was really thick and probably nowhere close to being my skin color 😛 My first “real” foundation purchase was Bobbi Brown’s Oil-Free Even Finish Compact foundation (I think that’s what it was called…they recently replaced it with the Long Lasting one). It’s still my favorite cream foundation and it made me a forever user/lover of Bobbi Brown’s base products. First drugstore eyeliner was probably a black CoverGirl one that a friend gave me in middle school. First real purchased eyeliner was, I think, a black Benefit one. First eyeshadow was a stack of loose pigments from a brand called True Colors at the mall…and I think that’s all I can remember 😛
