Keeping my skin in check with Elemis’ Tri-Enzyme Resurfacing Facial Wash and Balancing Lavender Toner.

My skin can be likened to a child who throws the worst tantrums. When tantrums strike, all hell breaks loose and mountains of angry pimples appear. Many things set her off: that time of the month, drastic change in weather etc and it’s been extremely difficult to keep things in check!

In comes this duo from Elemis!

I bought this duo on a whim (I always buy stuff on a whim :s ) when Debenhams were doing a beauty sale in September last year. I’ve heard many good things about Elemis so the discount motivated me to purchase these products! Housed in a set, I paid around £25 for both of them. Usually the Tri-Enzyme Facial Wash costs £27.60 alone so I bagged a lovely bargain then!

I started using the toner first as I had run out of toner at home but only started using the Facial Wash back in November which explains why I’ve used up so much toner.

The Tri-Enzyme Resurfacing Wash is part of the Elemis Anti-Ageing Resurfacing Programme where it takes on a chemical peel like quality. The wash stimulates the skin’s natural cell renewal cycle, actively smoothing and refining whilst sloughing away dead skin cells which dull the complexion. I found this particularly helpful in the last few weeks when my skin wrecked havoc as this gently exfoliates away scabs and dry patches on my skin minus the scrubby bits found in regular exfoliators.

Another thing to note is that this cleanser does not lather very much, which is a plus point for me as some foaming cleansers leave my skin dry and taut after thus emphasising the dry patches on my skin! I was initially worried about using such a ‘strong’ product as I have sensitive skin but the SA assured me that the enzymes in the product are derived from plant based products such as Galactolarabinan, a Polysaccharide from the Larch Tree enhances the non-abrasive exfoliation process whilst Brazilian Babassu Oil, rich in Fatty Acids replenishes moisture levels in the epidermis. Other products such as Moringa and White Truffle help protect skin against environmental damage as well as soothe and support the natural microflora of the skin.

I find using half a pump of cleanser more than enough for me and the fresh floral scent is rejuvenating, making this such a joy to use in the morning when the last thing I want to do is drag myself out of bed. =p However, as this works like a mild chemical peel, Elemis advises users to wear sunscreen (at least SPF30) and avoid sunbathing or sunbeds when using this product.

Worried that this might over exfoliate and irritate my skin, I usually use this once a day in the evenings. As I’ve been suffering from a terrible bout of breakouts I decided to things a little further and use this twice a day. Thankfully, the Facial Wash seems to help speed up the healing process!

Paired with the Balancing Lavender Toner (alcohol free, by the way!), my skin feels fresher and the scars seem to heal faster. The Lavender Toner reminds me of Clinique’s Clarifying Lotions sans the latter’s high alcohol content as my skin feels incredibly fresh and clean (stripped would perhaps be a better word to describe this) after using this duo but I would not use the Toner everyday as I sometimes find it to be a tad drying.

I once tried applying a cotton pad soaked with the toner onto a particularly huge and painful zit and it took the angry redness away. By two days the zit subsided and usually the zits on my face take at least 3-4 days to subside so I’m guessing this product did contribute to it’s fast death. 😉

Spending so much on a cleanser is not something I’d usually do but this comes so close to being a HG cleanser for me that… I’ll just keep an eye out for offers like these to come by again and will repurchase then.

If you are looking for a similar but cheaper product, I recommend you give Mario Badescu’s Enzyme Cleansing Gel a go as they are both very similar in terms of texture and results.

What do you think of such cleansers? Would you use them on an everyday basis?
