Review: Guerlain Rouge G 05 Gracieuse is lush!

This, is why I have been making Fenwick my second home for the last 2 weeks. =p Having read so much about these luxury lipsticks, I finally bought myself one and I only have Paris B to blame because she does such lovely swatches and speaks so terribly highly of Guerlain that it prompted me to jump onto the bandwagon and I even dragged the bf into purchasing some for his sisters  and mother. =p
I have to say, this is pure luxury. Price is cut throat too at £28.50 which is more than what I spend on groceries in a week :s Anyway, more photos of this pretty product!
Two mirrors pop out when you slide the lipstick out! Genius! The case is heavy, as mentioned by many bloggers alike but I don’t mind the weight at all! I just can’t stop staring at it simply because it is way. too. pretty!!
I have a teeny feeling this lipstick is being discontinued as I found it in the sales stash (what do you think? A poor student like me can never afford the price tag of this beauty!) Now on how to describe the colour….
It’s such a lovely copperish-brown and it has a very pretty gold shimmer to it! Texture is smooth and I was initially worried this may look too dark on my pale skin but I was pleasantly surprised as it doesn’t have the fierce look most red lipsticks carry but it did bring warmth to my otherwise pale face in a very good way!
Please excuse the breakouts around the mouth area.. The bf says I’m breaking out around the mouth area due to me being a glutton! =(
Now you are probably wondering how much this lipstick cost……. =)
Tadah! Cheaper than a Clinique lipstick, slightly more expensive than a M.A.C lippie! Amazing, isn’t it? ;)

Review: Sana Hiaruronsan Moisture Gel

Let’s face it. I am a sucker for cute, gimmicky products. This first caught my eye when I read Kathi’s review over two years ago but I resisted spending the money as I had no need for it.
I’m not sure if it’s the dreadfully hard water we get here in Canterbury OR the cold, dry weather OR both but my skin’s been really acting up recently (together with my weight which seems to be constantly going up the scale!!) so I got really desperate and remembered this little product so I quickly purchased it off ebay!
When I first received it, I went
*OMG it’s tiny!!!!* and saw it only had 25g in it, which makes it pretty expensive by my standards T__T
Here’s how it looks in the pot:
The content reminds me of a slightly runnier version of Vaseline minus the greasiness! This multi-purpose product can be used all over the face and body though I doubt the little tub will last very long should you use it on your body! Apparently you can apply this over your make-up which is not something I will be going to do as I do not want to risk smearing blush all over my nose. *you get the gist*
I had some dry, blotchy patches on my cheeks *thank you, Origins* and my hands were peeling *thank you Bake and Bite* so I applied them over my usual skin care routine (after moisturizer) just like how one would apply Clinique’s Moisture Surge Gel. The difference with this is I only apply it on the dry spots because I felt it would be a waste of money should I apply it all over my face and I didn’t want the product to run out so quickly!
Say hello to a very dry finger with a dollop of Hiaruronsan Moisture Gel!
The texture’s very firm, unlike that of Clinique’s Moisture surge Gel or Biotherm’s Aqua Source moisturisers which are more watery but this gel absorbs really quickly and doesn’t leave my face sticky! As for results, the dry patches on my cheeks were less blotchy / flaky the next morning and after 2 weeks of using it the dry patches have completely disappeared!
I am not sure if I will repurchase this though as it’s not available where I live and I am not willing to pay for shipping costs because I am simply a cheapo! But this surely is a very good product and is an excellent moisturiser!
I just hope I won’t need this product in the future as my skin is slowly healing and going back to it’s normal condition!

Review: La Roche-Posay’s Toleriane Soothing Protective Skincare

The recent heat wave did quite a bit of damage to my sun-sensitive skin where my skin burned really badly and turned blotchy. The ever-so-caring boyfriend panicked and whisked me off to Boots in search of a cure.
These days, we can’t be bothered going to the GP because the GPs at the University Medical Centre are absolutely rubbish:

Me: Hi Doctor, I’ve got a massive cough + flu that wouldn’t go away!
Doctor: So what do you think you need?
Me: +___+

Um, so yes, no GPs for us for a while! In fact, it’s been a while since I last burned this badly. I was actually using SPF 40 ++ in case you would like to reprimand me for not using sun screen!
We went past the regular brands for sensitive skin, namely Vichy and Avene but the really short ingredient list on La Roche-Posay’s Toleriane range caught my eye:
This supposedly soothes all types of irritated (sensitive skin), from being sun-burned right to post-laser treatments.
I am glad I found this product as it really soothed my ‘burning’ skin! Used with Avene’s thermal water spray, I applied a thin layer of this day and night for 2 days and  really noticed a difference where my skin was a lot less irritated and blotchy! Prior to purchasing this I continued using my Biotherm moisturizer which really stung my skin (due to the alcohol content, perhaps?) so I had to stop using it completely and used this moisturizer!
Overall this is a nice simple moisturizer that moisturizes and soothes the skin when it’s extremely irritated! I will be saving this for another extremely sunny day!

My new wallet!

I absolutely adore Cath Kidston. I love their oilcloth bags (which are godsend especially with the bipolar weather) and their floral prints always brighten up my day even though everyday is pretty much a shitty day for me at the moment!

I haven’t been blogging at all as I have been shopping *loads*, going round town after work with the boyfriend for his various Boots Optician appointments where we didn’t come home empty handed, of course… The bf is now a proud owner of two pairs of Raybans – aviators + spectacles *jealous*

Anyway, I thought I’d post a photo (or two) of my lovely NEW Cath Kidston wallet which is a non-sale item. =p Close friends of mine would be gasping in shock at this as I never ever buy anything that’s not on sale (unless you’re talking about skin-care products) but yes, this is a FIRST! =) =) =)

I got this from their Covent Garden branch and this was the first (and only thing) that caught my eye as I quickly scanned through their wallet / purse collection! I just couldn’t resist… what more my pay cheque only came in the day before =p
Yes, I have a supplementary Maybank credit card, courtesy of my dearest father who put a meagre RM3,000 limit on the card… That’s like, uh… £500 only? *sighs* My discerning brother pointed that I have Malaysian currency in my wallet too… Yes that’s not all. I also have New Zealand currency in my wallet. So much for being a supposed globe-trotter wahahaha.
Truth is, someone told me you’ve got to put some money into your new purse so you’ll never run out of money and the boyfriend chucked his foreign currency into my wallet. The end. =p
I actually bought another purse…. From Filofax (of ALL PLACES) because the lovely Red leather drew me in. *sighs*

Review: Origins Make a Difference Moisturizers really made a difference…. Not in a very good way!

I really want to be fond of Origins’ products. I love their concept, I love their ingredients but somehow, my skin doesn’t seem to agree with this brain of mine!
I have been constantly breaking out over the last couple of months and no, it’s not just down to that time of the month but the bf noticed my skin constantly has zits popping out! Thank goodness it’s not full blown acne (yet) but I always have a zit or two making an appearance on my usually near-flawless complexion!
I have been trying really hard to see what’s gone wrong in my skin care regime and I think these moisturizers may be one of the culprits!
Mum got me these moisturizers during CNY (many a month ago) where I have constantly been using the day moisturizer as well as the night one!
Before I go any further, here’s a swatch of both the moisturizers:
As you can see, the day moisturizer / skin rejuvenating moisturizer is thicker, creamier and stickier whereas the night moisturizer (which is a gel-cream, btw) seems more watery, which I prefer as it absorbs quickly into the skin.
The day moisturizer seems to stay on the surface of my skin all day and it makes me extremely uncomfortable even though I use a tiny amount! I believe this product breaks me out as my skin started getting bumpy after using this for a few days :’(
The gel-cream, on the other hand seems to work alright as I stopped using the day moisturizer and carried on with the night moisturizer and the bumps on my skin went away, yay!
Having said so, I think the problem lies with the day moisturizer as my skin doesn’t like cream-based products and it definitely didn’t hesitate to tell me so through my constant break outs =(
Here’s another photo of the moisturizers, blended out just so you can see the difference in textures..
The night moisturizer blends out a lot easier and doesn’t leave a white cast on your skin! Even though the day moisturizer does not have any SPF, it still leaves a whitish cast which really annoyed me. The fact that I went about town with a face that felt greasy annoyed me further but I didn’t have the heart to stop using the product as it wasn’t cheap and it was something Mum bought for me <3
I have since downgraded the day moisturizer as a neck moisturizer =p Hopefully I won’t get neck pimples :s
Day Moisturizer Rating: 1/5
Night Moisturizer Rating: 3/5 (because I’m not sure if this plays a part in giving me zits)

Review: MAC’s Semi Precious range: Rose Quartz and Crystal Pink Mineralize Skinfinishes!

I’ve never been excited about M.A.C. Ever. Even though I’ve heard so much about it and their releases always look oh-so-pretty and the people who know me know how I’m so much like a magpie who is constantly attracted to pretty, shiny things. =p
I am one who is extremely particular about customer service. If the service is bad, I never, ever go back to the shop, no matter how good the product is! Take my experience in Bluewater for example where I was in Boots trying to purchase a Clinique mascara as I heard their mascara never smudges! I stood at the counter for a good 15 minutes and the SA never did once look at me! She instead carried on chatting with her colleague (who works at the Clarins counter) and the bf was the one who dragged me away from the counter saying it just wasn’t worth waiting for her!
I was going to leave Boots when the SA from Lancome approached me asking if she could be of any help and no prizes for the correct guess…. I went home with a Lancome mascara and am still fond of their mascaras to this date!
With M.A.C, it goes way back in I think 2007/2008 when I was shopping for a Christmas present for Mum. Knowing how much she loves lipsticks (I think that’s the only one make-up product she constantly uses) I stepped into M.A.C at Midvalley Megamall (my first time in a M.A.C shop) as I was attracted by their huge array of lipsticks!
A M.A.C SA approached me immediately and asked if I needed help and I casually mentioned I wanted to buy a lipstick for my Mum. She then ushered me to their Christmas collection (I think) and showed me a set of BROWN LIPSTICKS and kept saying
‘oh this will be perfect for your mother. You buy LAARRRRRR’
and literally shoved it into my face.
Taken aback, I said no Mum doesn’t like Brown lipsticks (I obviously know because I have never seen my mother in a BROWN lipstick)
She then argued with me saying
‘You are a small girl you don’t know one lah.’
WTF?!
I then spotted a set of pink-ish lipsticks and said I wanted to purchase them and the SA said
‘Aiyo girl that one out of stock already lah you so slow in coming to buy’
SHE SERIOUSLY SAID THAT.
I then got a little upset and said I want to look at the single lipsticks (I was actually there to purchase not one, but two and maybe three lipsticks) and she said
‘What for you buy only one lipstick? Not like you are poor also.’
THAT. WAS. IT.
I then politely told her I have to think about it and was about to walk out of the store when she just had to say this
‘If you have no money then don’t waste my time lah.’
……………….
Furious, I stormed to Bobbi Brown (whose shop is really close to M.A.C’s) where I had excellent service and I purchased a Lipstick palette.
I have never stepped into M.A.C since…. Until a couple of days ago while I was walking around Fenwick in Canterbury…
oops, I didn’t actually realise this was going to be a long, ranty post! Sorry everyone! Anyway, long story short.. Fenwick do the most amazing Summer Sales and I was going through the Beauty counters in hope of garnering some bargains *cheapo self emerges* and so I came to the M.A.C. counter and I saw their Semi-Precious range!
I was really attracted to the MSFs but I told myself
‘If the service is shitty then I will just walk away. JUST WALK AWAY’
I was quietly chanting this ‘mantra’ of mine when an SA came up to me and said
‘Need help, love?’
I then said I didn’t know how to use the MSFs (It’s true I did say I’m really bad with make-up) and she was extremely patient with me, showing me which brush to use and how to swirl the MSF and all that jazz.
She wasn’t pushy *bonus point*
She didn’t even try selling M.A.C’s brushes but instead, recommended Eco Tools to me *big shiny eyes*
And was ever so kind to sit with me for a good 45 minutes matching my skin colour, going through all of M.A.C’s products with me *more bonus points*
Of course, I couldn’t walk away empty handed. LOL!
Here’s a close-up shot of the Rose Quartz MSF.
The base’s a really pretty pink with an inner circle which consists of green-ish, copper-ish, red-ish shimmering colours!
The SA mentioned I can swirl a brush all over the colours and use it as a blush and then pick up a smaller contouring brush and use the inner circle as a highlighter! 2-in-1 product! *likes it as it is gimmicky and shiny*
I still have a lot to learn when it comes to taking photos of swatches! But you can see how the base colour’s just such a lovely pink which is very pigmented and I only need a very, very light dusting on my cheeks for it to show up! The glitter particles in the inner circle are tiny and it looks very pretty when dusted onto my cheekbones!
The next MSF I purchased was the Crystal Pink MSF which is even more versatile than the Rose Quartz MSF!
I’m not very good at describing colour but the base colour of this MSF is a champagne-ish pink whereas the inner circle has bits of green, bronze and pink!
Where the Rose Quartz MSF is a little more glittery, this one gives you a nice sheen BUT! Overdo it and you will look like a disco ball.
Apparently, I can use this as a blush, highlighter and even a bronzer according to the SA as I’m rather fair! I have yet to use this as a bronzer as I do not know how +__+ so I guess I’ll leave the bronzer part and stick to using it as a highlighter / blush!
I have a feeling I will be purchasing more M.A.C products in the future, thanks to this lovely SA!
However, bread and water’s all I’m having from now on… =(

It’s been such a very long day…

To sum it up, one of my good friend / work colleague will be going home for 6 weeks and she will be back with some goodies for me *woot* and how else to end the long day with a trip to Lidl with the boyfriend and her husband, buying some DOUGHNUT PEACHES; PARMA HAM for our Parma Ham + Melon combo; WHITE CHOCOLATE WITH STRAWBERRY CRISPS; Peach flavoured Gummy Loops and a happy heart?

I’m so glad it’s Friday.
 =p
On a totally unrelated note, yours truly has TRULY blown her budget by purchasing TWO, yes you read right. TWO Limited Edition MAC MSFs from the Semi-Precious range. *gasps*
So much for not shopping during Summer sales. :s

Been stagnant for a while…

Why hello there, if you still read my blog =p

It’s been nearly another week since my last update and I currently have my hands filled with work / research / eye tests / HAIR CUT (this afternoon boy am i nervous) and of course, I have been meeting up with coursemates and work colleagues who will be leaving uni this year =(

Now I feel for socialites, even though I’m  not even close to being one as I am absolutely knackered after going out every single day for close to a week now.

On a side note, I have been having cramps in my tummy (not the once-a-month-kinda-cramps) but really painful stab-like pains in my tummy. I don’t know if it’s food-poisoning (my stools are um.. quite soft) and I am currently walking around looking like I’m 6 months pregnant thanks to the bloating.

Okay enough poop stories. I am heading to London tomorrow, after a very, very long time! Oh London how I miss you! *big shiny eyes* The boyfriend’s taking me to Marco Pierre White’s Steakhouse (because we cheapos managed to bag a 50% discount on one of those toptable-esque websites) and we are also heading to Brick Lane for their Sunday flea market!! Excited much!

That’s it for now, back to work and have a lovely weekend everyone!
