Finally! After giving these two foundies a go for over 3 weeks, here’s my verdict! I alternate between them both (depending on my mood) and I am very glad to say that these two ‘sisters’ did not break me out! =) One extra bonus point for that!!
A little background on these foundations: The 10 hour Sleep Effect foundation claims to give you a ‘fresh, rested complexion’ and has Vitamins and a ‘mineral-enriched formula.’ Healthy Mix, on the other hand claims to give you a 16 hour ‘Perfectly Glowing Complexion and Toned Skin.’
Do they both live up to their hype?
Well, yes and no. =)
I purchased the Healthy Mix foundation in Shade 51 (Vanille Clair) and the 10 hour Sleep Effect in Shade 71 (Abricote Clair) and here are their swatches:
Both the colours are very similar to each other with only the 10 hour Sleep Effect foundation being a little more pink than Healthy Mix but it does not show up once blended into the skin.
Texture wise, the Healthy Mix foundation has a heavier / creamier texture while the 10 hour Sleep Effect has a more watery texture. Here’s another photo of the foundations, blended out a little:
Scent-wise, Healthy Mix smells fruity, which goes in line with its claims to having fruits in it which enhances the skin’s radiance (yay!) The chosen fruits / vegetables are:
Apricot – radiance
Melon – hydration
Apple – anti-oxidant
Ginger – energy
On the other hand, the 10 hour Sleep Effect foundation has a floral scent which smells good too!
Coverage for the Healthy Mix foundation is fuller than the 10 hour Sleep Effect one due to it being thicker in consistency. Don’t get me wrong though, the Healthy Mix foundation still blends easily with either a brush or fingers (I’ve tried both methods)!!
The 10 hour Sleep Effect foundation does a sheer-to-medium coverage and is buildable too!
Both these foundations blend in effortlessly and did not give me the streaky-face effect (M.A.C. i’m staring daggers at you) which is good for someone like me who doesn’t know much about foundations, or even how to apply them properly lol!
I would recommend the 10 hour Sleep Effect foundation for those who have dry skin as I found this foundation to be quite moisturising and really gave me a dewy complexion without looking overly oily, which I quite liked.
The Healthy Mix foundation is more suited for combination / oily skin types as it provides a more matte finish, which is a plus for oily skin as you wouldn’t want to look like an oil slick at the end of the day!
I normally use the 10 Hour Sleep Effect foundation during the day as I just want a bit of colour to conceal the redness on my cheeks and one pump is more than enough for the entire face! I normally dab a little onto my cheeks, chin, nose area and gently blend outwards and upwards towards my forehead in a patting motion as I feel this gives a more even coverage. =p As to whether it does make me look as though I’ve had 10 hours’ sleep…. Erm… I am not sure about that but it does give your skin a lovely, healthy glow!
I have actually tried the Healthy Mix foundation for over 16 hours (Royal Wedding day!) and I have to say yes, it does live up to its hype, ONLY IF you set your foundation with powder. I currently use Bare Escentuals’ Mineral Veil which does give a nice finish and the foundation did not slide off my face!
Healthy Mix Foundation Rating: 4/5
10 Hour Sleep Effect Foundation Rating: 4.5/5
I would definitely repurchase these foundations again, but then that will have to wait until I actually use them up as I only need ONE PUMP per application and I do not really use foundation everyday unless I’m going out. =)
